You cannot selectively numb out emotions.
When you numb out pain, you also numb out joy.
The process of readying for love and intimacy demands that you feel every single emotion. Without judgment, allow it to pass through.
Our culture does not make room for the full range of our emotional capacity to be seen. Not all are deemed “acceptable.”
In a world where the logical and the reasonable are valued, the messiness of feeling is not only an inconvenience, it is judged as a lack of control, as a personal defect.
Perhaps if we gave each feeling appropriate airtime, instead of stuffing them down, we’d feel less constipated.
Perhaps if you showed every delicious face you own, people who aren’t a match might just fall away….
Sound dangerous?
When you cut off what you feel on one end of the spectrum, you limit what you have the bandwidth to feel at the other end.
You deny the ones who do have the ability handle it, the honor of loving, appreciating, and holding you in that spot.
I do.
The lie of controlling your feelings is that you appear stronger, more powerful….
…when it is your vulnerability that will bring you closer to the ones that matter most.
What will you allow yourself today?
