On Letting Go of The Prince…

How are you doing with staying positive, monitoring your thoughts, seeking pleasure? Are you finding that when you get busy living, you forget that you are intended to feel good and go back to your default mode? And so it is with us all. This quest to find abundance and pleasure in our lives seems to take a back seat when seemingly thrown into the abyss of “life”. This place is where the thoughts we chose contract, rather than expand us. (Yes, my darlings, you heard right, “chose”.) If you don’t believe to have an awareness around this, you can probably sense the contraction if you get quiet enough. It might show up in the form of sensation in the belly, queasiness, lower back pain, tightness around the shoulders, shallow breathing, just not feeling good… Our bodies invite us to tune in, tap in, turn on to where the dissonance lies. We may lie to ourselves, our bodies never will.

I have been at this for so long – I have managed to sustain this feeling place for longer and longer periods of time. And my journey is to keep at it until pleasure becomes my new and improved default mode. There is a story I heard once about how monkeys were captured: a small hole, large enough for their hand to fit in, is drilled into a coconut, and seeds are placed inside. The monkey, reaches in, grabs the seeds, and in an attempt to remove them, gets stuck. Escape with a coconut on your hand, slows it and the monkey is quickly caught.

And so it is when we remain stuck waiting for change, or someone/something to rescue us (a man, winning the lottery, getting a raise). It’s as if the escape to freedom is slowed down by our unwillingness to let go of the thoughts that bind us. If what we say is that we want to make more money, have more pleasure in our life, find the perfect partner – yet these things are not showing up, we need to take a closer look. Do you have a secret desire that you will be saved?

You may be holding onto those measly seeds in hopes that they will be the answer to all that befalls you. These are seeds that make you feel safe and secure – when, in fact, you may just have a coconut at the end of your arm. Until we decide to let go, we cannot be free.

I’ve struggled with wanting to be rescued. I still do sometimes. My father took care of everything for our family – that’s my model, so that is the core belief I am slowly, but surely letting go of. I don’t need to know how my financial or other freedom is going to show up.

Understand that developing a supporting community is essential to your growth. Have clarity on this, be mindful of what you say to yourself, and expand in abundance, success and love every day. Acting on your desires rather than waiting for someone to do it for you will change your default mode. Aren’t you worth it?

P.S. Just for fun – these are Snow White’s lyrics. Time to toss them, don’t you think?

“Someday my prince will come
Someday I’ll find my love
And how thrilling that moment will be
When the prince of my dreams comes to me
He’ll whisper I love you
And steal a kiss or two
Though he’s far away I’ll find my love someday
Someday when my dreams come true

Someday I’ll find my love
Someone to call my own
And I know at the moment we meet
my heart will start skipping the beats
Someday we’ll say and do
Things we’ve been longing to
Though he’s far away I’ll find my love someday
Someday when my dreams come true

Someday my prince will come
Someday we’ll meet again
And away to his castle we’ll go
To be happy forever I know
Someday when spring is here
We’ll find our love anew
And the birds will sing and weddingbells will ring
Someday when my dreams come true.
